My Not-Quite-Penultimate Word on Politics

Category: politics |

Okay. While the girlfriend writes up her paper on The Aeneid, I’m going to go ahead and write up today’s post, which I should have done earlier, but here we are. I’ve also come to realize that I am not quite the revolutionary I imagined myself to be. I’m still going to spout off here with some vitriol over the stupidity of U.S. and local politics, just not as often as I originally intended.

To tide you over until my next burst of fury, I offer you a trio of recent posts by John Rogers (whose blog is not just linked over there because he calls it Kung Fu Monkey). “Learn to say ‘ain’t'…” wherein he waxes sagely on the lessons politicians should learn from stand-up comics, “Senate Quicksand”, part two, in which he speaks (correctly in my opinion) on why governors do better than senators (lately at least) in presidential races, and then “Feedback & Criticism” where he offers up, well, reader feedback and criticism on the other two parts. It’s a lot to read, but worth it. So go, I’ll wait.

You’ve read it? Good. I felt compelled to point it out because Rogers manages to put into words a lot of my thoughts since the election on why it went the way it did. I have nothing substantial to add, except I hope someone other than the Republicans reads that post and learns from it. The opposition campaigns (Democrat, Libertarian, Green, Satanist, whatever) need to start now if they are going to win or at least put up a fight of which they can be proud. The Republicans are entrenched and are building the bulwarks up higher everyday. The next election will be fought on their terms if no one offers up an equally compelling alternative, which so far has not happened. So go do something to help the party of your choice (even if it is the Republicans).

Though I feel shame to admit it, I didn’t actually watch the elections. I did maybe half an hour of research on the candites and that was it. (So spelled that wrong!) I can admit shame because I voted for Bush from fear of change. Though, now no one knows what change could have happened. It could have been something beneficial to the company. Thinking back though, most of what I heard was about the rights on abortion, gay marriage, and the such. What about more serious matters? I also didn’t understand some of the run arounds that were said when I saw brief catches of the presidential debates on the news. Maybe that’s why I don’t get politics…. Thanks for the links though. They were good reading!
