rose to the challenge

Category: tv |

Finally. After quite a few brilliant guest hosted shows and several real duds (Brian Williams talking to anybody and an hour of Barbara Walters and Jane Fonda, my ears bled, seriously), Charlie Rose is back from heart surgery and recovery, ready to crush his enemies, see them driven before him, and to hear the lamentation of their women.

His first show back, starts off with him talking about the experience (of heart surgery, not crushing his enemies) and possibly apologizing for letting Brian Williams guest host. Don’t know as I’ve yet to watch or listen to it, but as soon as I can, I shall for no one else hosts intelligent discussion on television with quite the same level of panache and objectivism (politically at least, I’m still not 100% sure where his politics lie and I’ve been watching him for probably ten years).

A friend of mine keeps trying to shove my eyes and ears into the Tavis Smiley show (not to be confused with Guy Smiley) which now has a podcast so I might finally give it a chance.

And, in unrelated “news”, I’m working up a post of my top ten favorite film directors since people are always asking me about such things. In a possible surprise to some of you, neither George Lucas nor Steven Spielberg make the list. Check back in a couple days though to see who does (and why).
