go vote! (or not)

Category: politics |

I am all about voting and doing your civic duty (I’m the one guy you know that actually wants to be on a jury after all), but I’m not going to tell you to vote tomorrow. Sure, if you know who you want to vote for, go out and cast that ballot. If you’re still undecided though, sleep the day away.

Despite what the media (and maybe some of your friends) want you to think, tomorrow isn’t part of your civic duty. Heck, prior to Teddy Roosevelt we didn’t have primaries and if you check the Constitution, you won’t see anything about them there. Voting tomorrow just reinforces the two party system to which we have become accustomed. Granted, one of the people on the ballot tomorrow will be the next president and will become so in part because of that vote, but if you’re undecided, don’t worry a bit about skipping out on the festivities.

When November (or that jury duty notice) rolls around though, be ready to earn your keep. (Or not, after all it is a free country.)
