Because you demanded it, Wakeup Call: Chapter 2 is now live on Youtube, Flickr, and the Wacko Productions website.

That’s right, what was supposed to be a one off experimental project and test for the longer 7 part serial coming this fall, is now a serial on it’s own. Everyone wanted to know what happened next (including me!) so we decided to keep going. Chapter 3 should be online early next month with the conclusion coming in Chapter 4 a month after that. Then, this fall, a new as yet untitled serial will reveal exactly what sent Joe and Grace on the run.

The ever brilliant Damien, who has done me many a good turn by promoting my films and connecting me with people (including most recently Savannah Murphy, star of Wakeup Call), seeks to continue the turning by spreading word of others. With work returning and a half dozen films in the works, I’ve not had time to look over all of the people, so while I cannot vouch directly for them, I can vouch for him. Anyone he wants you to know about is worth knowing about, if not also following slavishly and drowning in heaps of money.

That being said, of those on his list I can offer up a quick recommendation for artist Kirsten Brown as I own some of her work myself, the site grinding as it is among the top feeds I check, the game work of Zachary Anderson who I fortunately know in real life, albeit not as well as I’d like, and the also wonderful art of Ben Templesmith (the 21st century’s answer to Bill Sienkiewicz, not that Mr. Sienkiewicz is not still producing great work, but if you like the latter, you’ll probably like the former and vice versa).

So I was going to mention that Caught Red Handed, the slasher spoof that we shot seven years ago because we were bored, is now up on YouTube. Somehow though, despite not having told anyone (and only having a handful of subscribers on YouTube), in the four hours since it went on line it’s already racked up an amazing, for us anyway, 69 views, ten just in the past twenty minutes.

So go watch it now, before all your friends have already seen it. And check back in two weeks for the re-release of the 2002 sequel Caught Red Handed 2: Pantherfoot’s Revenge, all leading up to the release this summer of Caught Red Handed: 3D!.

Or you know what, here, let me try this embedding thing:

(And somewhat fittingly, this marks post number 666 on my blog)

As you may have heard, today photo site flickr added the ability to upload videos with one major caveat, one that matters not around here. Only videos shorter than 90 seconds would be allowed, the idea being to stop people uploading The Daily Show and thus encourage it for use with home movies.

But, you (being so clever and having read my internet video manifesto) say, what about 1 minute long microfilms? What indeed? I have now uploaded Wakeup Call onto flickr. Let’s see what happens, shall we?

And because you demanded it, I have written the first of 2 or 3 follow up microfilms so you and I can find out what happens next to Joe and Grace (cause really, I had no idea when I wrote it).

Back in the early years of this century, Wacko Productions released two VHS tapes (ask your grandparents, kids) compiling the short films we’d made to that point. Through the use of arcane spells (and our old video camera), those tapes now reside on my computer so that you the viewing public may stare in awe at (and eventually run in terror from) those antiquated movies.

The first of the bunch, Edward Kittenhands can now be viewed, favorited, and rated with 5 stars at YouTube. The film dates all the way back to 2001 so keep that in mind as you laugh, shriek, and realize that you watched it for free so there are no refunds. As always, spread the word (you don’t want to be the only one caught watching this film).

More old stock will soon be pawned off, er, released over the next couple of weeks, so stay tuned (to the TV and away from the computer).

I was going to write up what I think would have been my first ever “best movies of the year” post, but going through IMDB’s list of movies that came out last year ate up too much time (though I did discover just how hard it can be to tell porn and non-porn movie titles apart). So instead, I give you one drama and one comedy that, in addition to being two of the best of the year, are also probably films that you missed but should see at the first opportunity.

Drama: Michael Clayton.
I don’t know what to start with. Each element was spot on, right down to James Newton Howard just obtrusive enough to let you know it’s awesome score. A score that I bought when I got home from the movie. I don’t buy soundtracks normally and other than knowing that Danny Elfman did most of Tim Burton’s movies and Lucas and Spielberg love them some Johnny Williams, I couldn’t tell you who did the soundtrack for most movies, but this one grabbed me and didn’t let go. Fortunately for all of you (and heck, me too), it’s being re-released thanks to it being awards season so go check it out.

Comedy: Death at a Funeral
This farce makes up for anything bad Frank Oz has done. For one thing, it features two of the original stars of Spooks, but throw in Ewen Bremner, Alan Tudyk, a dead body or two, and Peter F*ckin’ Dinklage and you’ve got something. Something funny. Something that you probably missed, but come the end of February you’ll have a chance to catch on DVD.

Second blog post this year, so I’m already tied with last year. Moving right along, Ian’s in The Hot Seat.

And if you particularly enjoy this series, you can check out the new Hot Seat playlist on YouTube for every installment of the series, new or old.

In other news, Jason has revamped the “watch” page on the website, with The Hot Seat series on the left, all other films on the right, and a second navigation bar should you wish to view the films anywhere else on the internet (spreading our fame far and wide!).

As always, if you want to sit in The Hot Seat, or hold the boom microphone, or act in another of our upcoming films, or…whatever else, send us an email at iwanttohelp@wackoproductions.net.

The following was written by David for the Wacko Productions blog and, as I’m feeling lazy, I’ve chosen to just crosspost it as is to let you know about our two new films.

New year, new blog post, and this one’s a quickie: aren’t y’all lucky?

To help ring in the new year, Wacko Productions has released its first two viral videos. “The Hot Seat with Shoulder Angel & Shoulder Devil” is available on Youtube and Myspace (as well as any of our usual haunts), and is a new series.

Word has it that this started when Sasha (who helped crew “Of Vice and Hitmen” as a streetlight, among other things) twisted Jason, Mike, and Aya’s (and her own) arms to make an improv video, featuring Aya’s wonderfully crafted sock puppets of Shoulder Angel and Shoulder Devil.

Mind you, “Of Vice and Hitmen” is still being worked on. There’s even a secret deadline we’re trying to make, so keep us on your radar.

If you would like to sit in The Hot Seat, or help out in any other way, send an email to iwanttohelp@wackoproductions.net.
